Drowning Prevention Week

17th – 22nd June 2024

Drowning Prevention Week is dedicated to empowering everyone across the UK and Ireland with the skills and knowledge needed to make informed decisions about water safety. This week is perfectly timed, focusing on the approach to summer, when the risk of accidental drowning rises significantly.RLSS Drowning prevention week dates

At LeisureWorld, we take water safety very seriously. Our swimming lessons are designed to develop what we consider a fundamental life skill for people of all ages and abilities. These lessons aim to enhance physical and mental strength and prepare individuals to handle critical water-related emergencies that may arise at any stage in their lives. This is crucial not only for personal safety but also for the safety of those around them.

During Drowning Prevention Week, we are placing extra emphasis on water safety in our Dolphin & Sharks lessons by incorporating basic RLSS Rookie skills:

  • Enter shallow water safely and confidently and wave
  • Tread water and signal for help
  • Swim continuously in clothing for 50m
  • Swim Lifesaving Backstroke
  • Scull head and feet first
  • Hold the ‘HELP’ position

We teach students starting from the most basic skills, building their confidence and safety awareness in the water at their own pace. Our program guides them from mastering fundamental strokes and movements to perfecting their swimming technique and stamina.

Safety is always a priority in our lessons, and this week we will place a special emphasis on drowning prevention and water safety. Our goal is to raise awareness and equip our students with the essential skills to tackle any challenges they may encounter in the water.

We are committed to creating inclusive spaces for everyone, ensuring that everyone has the opportunity to learn to swim.
