1. Water Safety Ireland – Level 1 Assistant Swim Teacher Course

If you love working with people and want to get into aquatic education, our upcoming swim teacher course in Cork is the perfect stepping stone.

This nationally recognised qualification is ideal for anyone looking to develop the skills, knowledge, and confidence needed to assist with swimming lessons in a safe, supportive, and fun environment.

2. RLSS UK National Pool Lifeguard Qualification (NPLQ)

Looking for a globally respected lifeguard qualification in Cork? The NPLQ is the most awarded lifeguard qualification across Ireland and the UK, held by 95% of all pool lifeguards. It is also fully recognised internationally, making it the perfect qualification if you plan to travel and work abroad.

Lifeguarding is an inclusive, welcoming, and highly flexible job. The modern lifeguard workplace reflects wider society, and we welcome candidates from all walks of life. To excel in this role, you just need to be physically fit, mentally alert, have good vision/hearing, and enjoy helping people.

What Does the NPLQ Course Involve?

This intensive program requires a minimum of 36 hours of training and 100% attendance. The comprehensive curriculum covers:

• Advanced Pool Rescue Techniques & Lifeguarding Theory.

• Essential First Aid and CPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation).

• Rigorous practical drills, including timed swims, lifting casualties, and diving to the deepest part of the pool.

Upon completing the training week, you will be evaluated by an independent assessor through multiple-choice papers and practical demonstrations of your rescue and first-aid skills. Once qualified, your NPLQ certificate is valid for two years.

Who Can Take This Course?

To take the final NPLQ assessment, candidates must be 16 years of age or older and be able to successfully demonstrate the following fitness pre-requisites:

• Jump or dive into deep water safely.

• Swim 50 metres in less than 60 seconds.

• Swim 100 metres continuously on your front and back.

• Tread water in deep water for 30 seconds.

• Surface dive to the floor of the pool.

• Climb out of the pool unaided without using a ladder or steps.

(Note: All candidates must present suitable identification to the Trainer and Assessor at the start of the course).
