What is the Functional Zone?
It is a gym or area of a gym in our facility in Bishopstown, Cork with adapted equipment to suit and allow individuals with a Neurological condition to train optimally or engage in a sustainable exercise programme.
Where is the programme delivered?
The programme is delivered in the functional training zone in Leisureworld Bishosptown. These are two leisure centres operated by Cork City Council located in Bishopstown and Churchfield, Cork. This is a not for profit organisation.
Who are the clients?
People who have
1. had a single neurological event e.g. stroke, acquired brain injury, spinal cord injury etc resulting in physical impairment .
2. People who have progressive chronic neurological conditions e. g. Parkinsons, Multiple Sclerosis etc
Pathways – How are people referred and what happens next?
At present, the pathway for access to the Functional Zone is via the HSE Community Physiotherapy service only.
LeisureWorld does not have any control over who is referred to the Functional Zone sessions.
