Sharon Semchiy from Sunday’s Well Swim Club and the LeisureWorld Performance Swim Squad has been selected for the Irish Team to compete at the International Schools Games in the UK this coming August, she is the only Cork swimmer to be selected along with one other Munster swimmer Eoin Corby from Limerick.
The development of a Cork Performance Squad gives Cork athletes a unique opportunity to train with like-minded athletes, thus giving them a better opportunity of furthering their career to a National, European and World level of swimming.
The Performance Squad began training at LeisureWorld Bishopstown on the 10th of March 2017 with LeisureWorld Bishopstown being deal for their practice with a 6 lane 25 metre pool and large viewing gallery for parents to come along and support. The availability of the facility to these athletes allows them to train consistently in the aim of competing among the best.
With their weekly training now based here at LeisureWorld Bishopstown, the squad has been training week in week out, being driven on by their coaches Tom Cross, Deirdre Cunningham and Richard Cassidy. The success of Sharon Semchiy making the Irish Team for the upcoming International Schools Games in the UK is testament to the hard work going on behind the scenes by both athletes and coaches.
The Cork Performance Swim Squad is comprised of swimmers and coaches from clubs in the Cork area who have come together to train as a group. LeisureWorld is pleased to support the coaches and swimmers of the Cork Performance Squad and is very obliged to provide a training centre for these up and coming athletes. The squad offers young talented swimmers based in the Cork area a chance to develop and train in a positive environment.
